Stacking multiple sets in DSS?

Just wondering what the general consensus is on stacking multiple sets of data in DSS.

Is it better to stack each set seperately, then stack the final autosaves from each, or better to just throw them all in at once?

I've only just started doing multi-set data & haven't experimented much, just thought I'd get others views on what might work best.

Cheers,

Justin.

The few times I've done this, I've tossed all the data from different nights in the pot....lights, darks and flats.
DSS coped well even when orientation of the images was slightly different.

Justin,

I don't use DeepSkyStacker, but, I think what you want to do is to calibrate each set of data (dark subtract and flat field). This way, you will have nicely calibrated light frames from the different sessions.

Then, let it go bananas and align and combine the calibrated data into the final stack.

Yeah I've been chucking everything in & letting it go for it too, seems to work pretty good just wasn't sure if it was the best method.

I gave the seperate stacks a try out without much difference (bit worse) but my data wasn't the best (no flats), should have really used Iris to get rid of the worst of the gradient at least.
As you say H, nicely calibrated would make a difference.

Thinking this might be like regular PS processing, what works for one image may not work for another...lots of tinkering & trial & error.
Spending more time in the software than at the scope.

I've been having a play about with groups & drizzle in DSS...WOW, what a difference.

If your not using them yet, give it a go.

Why haven't I been using them...typical male, when in doubt read the instructions LAST.
