Super Moon medley from Brisbane

From my back yard I don’t have much of foreground interest so I decided to go for the full disc shots as the Moon inched towards closest approach at around 11:52pm AEST.

Here is a medley of shots using various cameras and lenses as noted on each image.

At a final image resolution of 1024x1024, the differences between telescopes and lenses aren’t as obvious.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks again Rick and Dunk.

Bear in mind that the seeing was about average so not really suited to high resolution work. The Mewlon (and all ‘scopes) can do better with a Barlow/PowerMate on a good night of seeing.

Cheers

That 400mm lens is a cracker! Makes the Tak look like an average kind of scope. Interesting comparison. Nice work.

Hi Mickoid

The images I posted have all been re-sampled down to 1024x1024 and so unfortunately they do not show the raw detail, image scale and resolution of the original full size captures.

When you look at the full size originals, the clear pecking order shows that focal length and aperture are king, as follows:
  1. Tak Mewlon 210 at prime focus with the ASI174MM
  2. Tak Mewlon 210 with x0.8 reducer and 5D Mk III
  3. Canon EOS M3 with 400mm + x2 Extender
  4. Canon 7D Mk II with 100-400 + x1.4 Extender.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Tony, it was nice to have a clear night with no pesky clouds to spoil the party.
