12v power for Canon 40D

Hi guys

What's the best/cheapest way to be able to power a Canon 40D out in the field with 12V cigarette lighter power?

I've heard of people making their own, but I don't have the skills or time to do that

Cheers

Mike,
I made this myself, but it wouldn't be hard for someone to replicate, I made it using a battery grip case I bought from ebay, and then mounting a small DC to DC converter from jaycar on one of the slides that was provided, it has work without an issue since. this cost me about $50 to build. I would do it for you, but I am about to head off on my honeymoon, it would only take an hour for someone to do for you.

Search the forum Mike!

There was a thread recently about an external power supply for a 450D that had a link to a european site with which had 12V adapters for Canon cameras.

Looks great Trent.

How long are you gone for? I'd be happy to pay you for one - but depends if it could be done before IISAC

Have a great honeymoon!

Sorry Mike,
I will leave the weekend prior to iceinspace, and i dont think i would be able to get the battery grip before that, if there is a chance that my 1000d grip will fit I am happy to lend it to you in the interum

Sorry Mike my mistake, if you can't find someone to make one for you or a find suitable part, I will order the parts required so they are waiting for me mid-November when I return from OS.

Hi Mike I can probably make you one like this. As discussed in this thread. It might not be what you want though. The switching regulator used is very high efficiency so it doesn't waste power.

All I would need is an older used 40D battery.

Thanks Brendan. I've ordered one from Astronomiser for now, but over time I'll need two so I might take you up on that.

I saw that David, and had a look.Still not sure were to get what I need for the 450D,I looked at H's links-they appeared U.S.

I've got that 12 volt 3amp Jay Car elite, power supply, that has one station vacant-so may be that could be used,if Geoff could make one.

Is there anywhere in Australia we can buy these things?,I do not have time or skill to build one.

Cheers Chris

Never thought of using 12v supply, might be worth the trouble of using the Battery adapter from my AC adapter to use?

Mike, could try one of these for a start - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AC-Power-...ht_1722wt_1028

I have myself and although I will be making a 12V adapter to suit the voltage possibly using this - http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView...BCATID=1002#12 or similar.

good to hear,I am getting one made up for my 450D by a technician. One little problem it appears I had was not covering the view finder and stray light was entering it and I ended up with greenish glow along one edge of all my images.

So do not forget to cover view finder, heard about this before-but so easy to forget.
