Lightbulb My data for post-processing practice

Hi everyone,

I have uploaded FITS data for two of my recent captures, if anyone wanted to practice and also to show me the ropes! I will put up my own attempts soon as well

NGC6188 - Taken with 80ED over three nights, roughly 10 hrs of data
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...NGC%206188.zip
(Some nights the focus & tracking wasn't so hot so the subs arnt amazing)

IC 1805 - Taken with T14 on iTelescope, 40min Ha only
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...iTelescope.rar
(Fully automated imaging from USA, using a FSQ106 and SBIG 11000M)

** Edited - New image added ** Tarantula Nebula - Taken with 80ED, 2.75hrs Ha + 1hr OIII
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...tula%20Neb.zip

Thanks for reading and clear skies!

I cannot get NGC 6188 to stack in CCDStack, PI or DSS - all 3 fit files are different dimension sizes and I cannot even manualy align them in CCDStack.

Have you got uncropped data?

Lewis!
You have to do a star align first.
With PixInsight i did a StarAlignement
and afterwards with ColorCombination the 3 Images Combine nicely to a Color Image in PI...

Here's my attempt at a hubble palette NGC6188. Although the colour doesn't seem very right.

CCDStack wouldn't align them, even trying manually. Kept rejecting them, and when I flick through the files after trying, definitely not aligned at all. DSS outright rejected saying incorrect frame size etc.

I will try again in PI.

EDIT - tried again in CCDstack with a common crop to all to make same size, and still refuses to align / register them Odd - never had that issue previously

Nebulosity3 does it without a hitch

(I think you might need to scale them to match each other )

Manually redid it, and finally success. Really odd - CCDStack usually never fails.

Anyway, here's my go.I have an unenhanced more moody version also, but this one got fiddled with

Lewis,
Would you mind listing the steps you took? As yours came out much different to mine.

Now Hubble-esque, including one with green removed.

I do an RGB combine in CCDStack using SII for R, H-a for G and OIII for B. This gives a GREEN image. I then put it in Photoshop and selective colour transform it, altering magenta, cyan and yellows predominately.

Hi everyone,
Wow so many responses! Thanks alot for your input everyone some very good attempts and interesting to see how different the colour palette has come out.

Gerald your image looks almost like a real RGB!

Hobbit, your link comes up as a very small image/icon. Have you got a link to the full size?

Jo thanks for trying your hand at IC1805, yes the data really is quite lovely perks of hiring a very expensive set up for a short period! What software did you use? I liked the soft diffuse effect you added to the stars

Lewis, I normally edit the three NB channels in startools independently and then stack/RGB combine them in PS right at the end, so never tried aligning them in software (though would make my life much easier, must try CCDstack sometime ). Would you still like me to put up the un-cropped images? My favourite version is the hubble-esque, probably a mid point between the two green adjustments.

I am struggling to extract the Ha data from NGC188 from the background in Startools, anyone got any hints or tips? Thanks again everyone!

Hi guys,

I've added a link to the stacked FITS for the Tarantula neb in my original post, if anyone wanted to try their hand at that Here's my very rough attempt using the Ha data, using just the basic stretching tools in DeepSkyStacker
