Help wanted with Imaging Source camera

I have just bought a new imaging source camera. Everything installs perfectly on my desktop, but on the laptop I get a message saying that no device can be found. See thumbnail. The camera is a DBKAU04.AS
Any suggestions? And yes, I did connect the camera.

The strange thing is that on first connecting, the laptop says it has found a new device, But according to the instructions supplied with the camera, you are supposed to ignore any attempt to install a generic driver but rather install the drivers from the supplied CD

Are you using the firewire camera and if so how are you powering it?

Hi Geoff
Did you have the camera connected when you installed the software?
I have often found that with USB devices they must not be connected whilst installing.
If it was then uninstall, reinstall with cable and camera disconnected.
Hope this helps.

Steve

Well that will shoot my advice down in flames then This problem is often faced by firewire cameras with laptops unless a powered hub or PCMCIA card is used.

As for the USB version if Steve's idea doesn't work try a powered USB Hub. The firewire ones draw a fair bit and maybe it is similar with the USB ones

Hi Steve
The software installs OK with or without the camera, but not the drivers and they definitely won't install unless you have the camera attached. The net result is that the software to control exposures, gain etc can't find the camera

Hi Geoff
I had a similar experience with a USB device.
Once I installed the drivers without the device present, restarted the laptop and then connected the device, windows then detected the device and it worked. If the driver specifically requests the device during installation plug it in then. USB was designed for hot swapping so you wont damage anything.
Are you running XP or Vista as this could also make a difference. If this doesnt work then perhaps the powered USB is the answer.
Good luck and hope you get it sorted.
Regards
Steve

I had this problem when my laptop was re-imaged after leaving my old work. Problem was, the re-install of XP didn't contain service pack 2, so it didn't include the USB2 drivers.

I ended up buying a fresh copy of Windows XP and letting it do it's auto-update thing to bring it all up to date.

Was worth it in the end.

The fact that it works on your desktop and not your laptop - could this be the issue? Is your laptop USB2, and does it have the latest Windows updates?

Thanks guys
I've managed to blunder my way through. Mike's comment about the drivers was helpful. I had recently gone from W2000 to XP. I found that the USB drivers had not been installed, but with a click of a mouse somewhere I was able to insruct the compter to install the drivers. I also uninstalled some reference to the camera (Steve) and then with both done, tried a reinstall and it all worked. These things are sent to try us.
