Yeah but.....
I'm doing solar imaging, fast frame in FireCapture.
With the ASI 174MM I can get up to 400 fps (using the ROI on the Spectroheliograph)

I would have thought the Lindy active leads would be enough. I have two 5m USB2 lengths that I daisy chain. Never really had any issues.

Marc,

The issue of concern is with the USB3 cables and the ability to handle the latest CMOS cameras.

Are you connecting the camera direct to the laptop or through an intermediate hub?

And it doesn't see the camera at all? Could be the driver, the USB port on the computer. Have you tried different ports? Another laptop? To rule out the cable.

I was having similar problems with my QHY183C

I bought one of these
https://www.megabuy.com.au/startech-...e-p702601.html

But...wait there's more....got it on Amazon for $A105 delivered.

It works very well!

The full-resolution frame rate is now faster than the useless short-ass OEM cable that comes with the camera.

Full-frame RAW16 format now tops out at about 7.5 frames per second. RGB24 at 10 fps and RAW8 at 14 fps.

I am using a Toshiba WIn10 pro Tecra i7 with a 2Tb SSD ...a SSD makes a measurable improvement to the capture rates. If you have a
laptop with standard spinning-disk SATA drive, I'd suggest you replace it with a mirrored SSD. (they are quite cheap these days)

I have also used the Jaycar 5m "active" extender...very unreliable...and when it did decide to connect 3fps was typical.

The top and bottom of this topic is this.

The IEEE dont rate USB 3, 3.1 or 3.2 for more than 2metres and any company selling you any cable that says that they can achieve this are going way outside the engineering standards.

Even so called "active" extenders are bending the edges of the process.

If its longer than 2m you should be prepared for it to fall back to USB 2 speeds.

What you should be doing is getting the computer MUCH closer to the mount and either use it there or use wifi or LAN networking to connect to that computer if you want to control from further away.

I have a nearly lag free system when at home as my PC is mounted on my dovetail bar and I can get nearly the same experience anywhere in the world I can get more than 20Mbit bandwidth using Microsoft RDP. I can use any computer that has an MS RDP client installed and get the exact same experience, whether it be from home/work/internet cafe in Oslo.

The BEST USB cable for your job is the shortest you can possibly use.

Cat 5e/6/6a/7 cables are all designed to carry at least 1000mbit at distances an order of magnitude higher than USB.

Thanks Peter
I bought one of these Startech 5m USB3 cables a month ago ( prior to my new ZWO camera arriving ) thinking they just have to perform as I’ve given up on the cheap ones
Thanks
You’ve answered my question

Well my retirement investment turned up today. Cheaper but not cheap whenever this weather clears it should be good testing it out.
