Comet C/2012 K1 (PanSTARRS) and little cluster NGC1261

Comet C/2012 K1 (PanSTARRS) and little cluster NGC1261. 2014 Nov 14. More details in pic.

The next conjunction with this comet and a decent size DSO is with galaxy NGC55 on December 19, at about the same separation.

Thanks Dave. Comets can get a bit so so without a nice DSO in the field. Seems to liven them up a bit and give perspective.

Yes, like 2013 A1 (Siding Spring) and Mars. The comet was well and truly walloped.

Your comets always give me motivation to go out and have a look for myself.
This one is a beauty.

comet Panstarrs

That's groovy Kevin.
Can you inform me of a resource that would allow me to find the comet this weekend?-
A map or a web address?
Thanks
Graham

Graham,
according to my Starry night for Hobart location.

Look about 7-8 degrees south from your zenith at approx 10:00pm local daylight savings time. Alt 82.5 degress. I other words look almost straight up facing south.

regards, Alan

Hi Graham, this is a screen shot from Stellarium for tonight. It's for my location but I've blacked out info that is for my local so should be okay for you I think.

Excellent image John. I've been K1 lately in favour of Q2 as my scope position can't do both.
