Another first light: Samyang 135mm f/2 and ASI294MC Pro
As well as a new ASI1600mm Pro mono camera I also got an ASI294MC Pro OSC camera. The plan is to run them simultaneously and collect a motza of data in the brief periods of cloud free darkness that we are blessed with. Sorry, but the test subject is the bloody Lagoon again
I'm actually pretty impressed with the result of 180x30s subs from a sky where you can only see a handful of stars - a few kms from the Brisbane CBD.
Nice! Which camera you prefer? I was thinking the 294 image looks more appealing to me.
Thanks, Troy. I haven't come to a firm conclusion yet. The 294 image has more integration time and I put slightly more effort into making it pretty. They both seem very capable cameras.
The full res looks incredibly well corrected for a color lens shot. As good as it gets.
Thanks, Marc! It has taken some work but I think I'm going to get reasonable results. Unfortunately, this weekend isn't looking good for a first outing to a dark site.
That's fabulous. Perhaps a bit dim and could do with a brightness boost but very nice stars and colours. It looks like you have a nice widefield setup there.
It'd be interesting to see how it compares to a nice DSLR/Mirrorless uncooled but low read noise and high megapixel image.

Thanks, Greg. Yes, it is a bit dim. I might tweak it a little tonight.
I can do a comparison with my D800 if the weather holds out...
Looks really great. They say the 294 is a very capable camera.
Thanks, Kevin. The 294 has great QE and low read noise at unity gain and above. Dark current is a bit high but you can't have everything. I plan to do NB and Lum with the 1600 and colour with the 294. Both at once, of course
