Ngc 1365

An attempt at NGC 1365. Data limited a bit by having to contend with dew and then mist - a chilly Barossa Valley night at a mate's farm.

Ended up with about 3.5 hours luminance + 0.5 hrs each RGB. ZWO ASI1600MM-C + RC8 at f/6 on an AP Mach1.

Higher res (downsampled a bit from the native 0.654" per pixel) is on Astrobin here.

Struggled a bit to process. Comments welcome.

I’m going to be really picky...

There is a little elongation in the stars. Hard to improve on the resolution given most of Oz sits at sea level, but I find tighter guiding or even AO helps, sans immigration to a high Chilean desert. Maybe a bit more blue in the colour. There are lots of small faint fuzzies in this field, maybe detected in the raw data maybe not, but I can’t tell with the high contrast processing .

This is still a solid image in my book.

Very well done

Thanks Peter. Yes, the seeing/guiding was a bit below ideal. I was getting an average FWHM of around 2.7", with a range from I think 2.3-3.2. On good nights, I've seen it get down to under 1.9".

AO is on the future wish list given the missus may not appreciate the move to Chile!

There were a few more fuzzies in the full frame (that I cropped to focus on the galaxy), but it'd be nice to bring more out. I need to be less heavy handed with my contrast/stretching perhaps!

Thanks again.

Hi Mr Duck. It certainly looks like a beautiful job.

My only comment is that maybe you needed more colour data as there seems to be some black spotting in the fainter areas of the galaxy arms like the data was not strong enough to stand up to the stretching. What would I know anyway?

Did I mention it is a lovely image?

Thanks, Master Simpson. Yeah - I think you're right. More data needed!

Thanks, Rick.

Though picky would be fine too!

This looks pretty reasonable Paul. As I said on the ASSA FB site, I think it needs more colour data. If you can collect more it will improve the image. I like the resolution you have obtained here.

I always look forward to seeing your latest image. ASSA is starting to gather good imagers, I believe the imaging group is having an impact on the talents of our imagers and is a credit to those involved.
