Recommendation for book / website on DSLR imaging

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a 10 inch Meade schmidt cassegrain telescope on on a Skywatcher GEM mount. My plan is to use a Canon 1000D DSLR with a f 6.3 focal reducer.

Can anyone recommend a good book or website which I can buy / read on how to avoid the pitfalls of getting starting in astrophotography?

Regards,

Paul Floyd.

P.S. As an aside, it has been raining here on and off for the last week since my telescope arrived.

I'd recommend Ron Wodaski's "The New CCD Astronomy". Expensive, but quite comprehensive.

Get it whilst you still can, cos it ain't gonna be reprinted apparently...

Dave

edit: I also recommend subscribing here as well - money well spent imho

Relevant for DSLR imaging?

Dave,

Just out of interest, does the book cover astroimaging with a DSLR?

Regards,

Paul.

Not really. But many of the basics and advanced topics of astro imaging are covered and it's an invaluable addition to any imagers bookshelves imho. This might be of help to you:

I've heard good things about this CD book as well:

Hi Paul,

I'm also new to astrophotography & on the very steep learning curve!

I have Ron Wodaski's book 'The New CCD Astronomy' & Jerry Lodriguss' CD book 'A Guide to Astrophotography With Digital SLR Cameras'. They are both quite technical but excellent books. I bought them both from Bintel but you may be able to find them on Amazon etc.

Even though it is expensive I've heard people call Ron Wodaski's book the CCD 'Bible'. It explains the concepts of astrophotography that are relevant to both DSLRs & CCDs. You may find that you move on to CCD photography in the future.

Good luck,

Kim

seems to me, while a book is nice but expensive- i think a better option is the web- theres PLENTY of valuble info out there to your unique situation- just print out what specifically helps you and make a nice little folder

I have both too and both are great.

I only recently got the ebook version of The New CCD Astronomy. I had to send them an email as they have stopped distrubuting both the hardcopy and the ebook. They told me that they stopped publishing the book in December last year. If you want a copy of this book I think you had better do it soon.

Is it any good for beginners?

Do you think 'The New CCD Astronomy' is user friendly enough for a beginner?

Paul.
