GSO 12" Collimation Springs Replacement

Hi Guys,

the factory springs pressing against the prim. mirror cell on my 12" GSO Dob are weak and were never really up to the job. I know that Bob`s Knob`s offers replacement but there is no local dealer in NZ and its expensive to have it shipped from USA or AUS (crazy expensive for 3 little springs).

Has anybody got details of the required qualities, so that I could approach a local maker?

Or does somebody know of a decent 'Bunnings' alternative?

Cheers,

Yes, Bunnings has springs to suit, although you may have to trim them to length required. I used Bunnings Springs on both my 12" and 16" GSO dobs. The springs are usually located in the section where the cabinet making gear is displayed, they are in little packs (white and yellow coloured from memory). I suggest you take one of your springs along to compare, you want one that will be stiffer than the stock GSO spring, but the right diameter for the job.

Century Springs I believe they are:

Maybe not exactly that one but they have heaps to choose from.

Thanks a lot for your replies. They are only $16 for the set-that’s about half the shipping costs of the Bobs!!! Can’t wait to go to Bunnings on the weekend
