Faulty lens question

I have a new condition Yongnuo 85mm f/1.8 lens which comes up with the
usual "ERROR 01 lens not communicating with camera- clean lens contacts"
on the screen. It will sometimes work properly, but not often, but when used in a programme that allows me to dictate the aperture, such as AV or M, it works perfectly at f/1.8, but not at any other aperture.
My question is, is it worth getting this cheap lens repaired?[ it is nice and sharp, and has lovely bokeh], and if so, who in Australia would do it?
Thanks in advance for any info. Oh, and yes I have cleaned the life out of the contacts.

So it does it work manually? Just use it that way.

Hi R,

Is there any sign that the in-camera contacts might be an issue, either dirty, bent, worn, etc... Have you tried another lens on the camera, to test for potential camera issues?

Best

Error 0I is always a contact issue, give it a good scrub with metho or similar or even a very fine 1200 sand paper, it dose work mate.

I have some terrible advice on this forum but I use them all myself and they do work. and i do have some sensitive equipment

People are so afraid of their stuff

O.K. Glen, yes I could use it manually, but only at f/1.8, no other aperture works, and I'm sure you'll agree that there are plenty of times when f/1.8
is just not going to cut it. 85mm is a nice portrait length, and I'd have no chance of blurring the background at that aperture.

Hi JA, I have four other lenses, two Canon and two Yongnuo, and they all
work 100% of the time.

Hi Leon, the lens is almost unused from new, and I have had a good go at the contacts including a new pot scourer[not a metal one]. I don't want to
remove the gold plating if I can help it, because of its great conductivity.
I have been led to believe that the connectivity problem is frequently a
ribbon connector come loose when the lens gets a knock, and obviously it
has to be stripped down to fix that. Having said all that, I have some 1200, so having little to use I might give it a go.
