I have some $$$ to spend

I have managed to obtain some $$$ from Uncle KRudd and I want to buy a camera for astrophotography. I have a canon 350D (unmodded) I also have an unmodded SPC900 webcam but I want more....more I say.
I was looking at a DFK 21AU04.AS from http://www.telescopes-astronomy.com...._pricelist.htm at $460 are they what I need for planetary and the occasional deep space? Is there something better? for around the same price?

Hi Adrian

It begs the question, if you have a Canon 350D, then why do you want to buy another camera for "ocassional" photography?

the 350D would suffice.

TBH mate, if its only for occasional use, then i personally find it hard to recommend anything, as for occasional use i would recommend a DSLR !!

maybe someone else will chime in who is more knowledgeable in these matters

One of the other problems is I find looking through the view finder on the Canon I cant achieve focus too well but if I can see it on the Laptop screen I have a better view to focus with.
Maybe I should be looking for a camera with liveview on it, or if there is a magic piece of software out there somewhere to get liveview on the PC screen would be very interested.

while its true that the 350D doesnt have live view, there are other ways to get better focus, maybe something like a bahtinov mask would help, or for $60 you can buy an angled viewfinder for your camera, that can be switched between 1x and 2.5x

loads of people achieve great results with a 350D, its just practice.

but to my mind, if you wanted to spend something, i dont see the point in somethign dedicated for ocassional use, and if i already had a DSLR, then i would be looking at buying a CCD imager, although thats only if its for far more than the odd snap.

re extra money

Its a little difficult to say,as we are unsure how much funds are avaliable

you, must have approx $500,as the DMK is that much,

Considering you have the 350D canon, which is a great camera,

and depending how much funds are avaliable, why not up grade to the

Canon 450D,approx $825 (body only),sell the 350D,i just sold my 300D

with kit lens, for around $350,with the funds avaliable from that sale,

can go towards the DMK,you have another item like a TUCAM i think, you may get a sale for it too!

I very recently bought the 450D,i really havent had a big play with it,

but,oh so WOW!,you will really enjoy yourself with that piece of kit.

One thing i have noticed is the bulb setting can be triggered from lap top,no trigger cable needed!plus live focus, and noise reduction built in.

Hope this suggestion is of use

Chris
