NIKON Coolpix L100 Digital Camera. Opinions?

edit: Canon wins again.

Hi all, just a question if I may. I have searched the forums / google / review sites, but I can not find the answer. Does anyone have any experience with a NIKON Coolpix L100 Digital Camera? Are they just rubbish for any type of astrophotograpy, whether that be wide field shots or attaching to a telescope?

I'm not even sure if it will do unlimited exposure length.

My budget does not extend far enough for a canon, but I thought I read somewhere about coolpix, being reasonable for something. Although the one they were recommending had a flip screen, maybe i'm confused.

Thanks

in the early days when d-slr cost about 2000, the coolpix range came with threaded ends - to attach for digi-scoping, now d-slr's are cheaper not many would use them for astrophotography - the l100 has a long zoom ranging from f3.5-f5.6 - i would buy a secondhand d-slr in good condition

Are new Nikon D40 SLR's a waste of money?

I am looking for second hand cameras, yet not much is falling in my < $600 catagory.

I've been following prices on ebay for some time, Canons that almost always sell for less than $600 include:
10D (~$300-350)
20D (~$450-500)
30D (~$550-600)
300D (~$300-350)
350D (~$400-$500)
Fairly regularly a 400D will go for <$600, and I've seen a few 450D's go for less.
(Body-only prices)

I was going to buy the nikon d4o this afternoon. I will instead follow ebay and try and get a 350d. I will have to wait longer, yet I know it will be worth it.

Would it be worth trying to get a second hand 40d, llike this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Canon-EOS-40D...ayphotohosting or is a 350d reasonable?

Or perhaps a Xs 10IS, http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.st...ct/View/XG3062 ?
