Anyone in brisbane got an MPCC that I can borrow??

Hey everyone...

Just looking to see if anyone near by has an MPCC that I can test out to flatten the field in my new refractor... I know I could buy a WO 0.8x flattener/reducer for the same price as an MPCC, however I dont really want to widen the field any more.. the focal length is only 434mm as it is.. the 0.8x reducer will bring it back to 350 or there abouts..

If anyone can help out with a lend of an MPCC that I can test to see if it wil flatten the field that would be great...

Cheers.

Alex.

I'll be bringing mine along to 10 Chain Hill next weekend.
Unless you want to come up during the week to try it out.

Rob, I'm going to get my OTA cut down during the week. Hopefully I'll have it all sorted by the weekend.

Thanks guys... that would be great..

I've read that the MPCC will flatten out the field on a few different refractors, figure its worth a shot rather than reducing the focal length any further..

Cheers.

Alex,
I use one with the Lomo/TMB 80. The spacing is critical, and to this end I use the Peter Tan adaptor, MPCC - QHY8.
Marc (multiweb) is trialing an adjustable set-up, to allow differing distances for the adaptor.

Cheers Gary... Yea I remember you telling me that its very critical to get it between what was it 52 ~ 56mm distance from the sensor..

Before I go and buy spacers I'll have to find out the specifics of my new camera, as the Orion star shoot pro is slightly different to the QHY8 in design, and I think the sensor is a little closer... I'll work it out...

You're actually the person who gave me the idea of using a MPCC rather than a reducer.. I remembered you saying you use one with your TMB 80/480.. (Which I still want, and call first dibs on if you ever decide to sell!! )

I'll have a fiddle on the weekend at 10 chain hill with either Roberts or JJJ's MPCC, see if its a viable option, and if so I'll be getting one from Peter Tan in the near future...

Cheers.

I'll chuck in the spacers that come with the MPCC kit for Sat night too Alex, just in case something is the right size.

Mate, Mate, Mate

I had one in the black bag I was carrying - I know you dont want to hear this . Sry but I only saw this post when I got home

Let me know how you go. I can mail it to you on loan until you get one. Its ok - I know where you live

I used it with no spacers on the Orion and it worked fine - made the old ED80 pin point to the edges. The old 80s gone but it is the type of thing that is handy to have in the cupboard.

Going back to Leyburn tommorrow after orientation - text me (i'll get that out there) and i'll post it to you.

Almost back to human after a shower and a shave - washed half of Leyburn of me.

Have fun with OSC

Mark
