Can you change a manual SW dobson over to a SW GOTO base?

Hello,

I have the chance to get a SW 10 inch goto base, but no ota.

What's involved for changing a manual dob over to a goto base? The base is the entire unit, but I would be looking to buy a 2nd hand manual 10 inch and swap over.

If there is a link to a good site or video, that would be awesome.

I have read that goto may not be the best way to learn the sky, but the offer is very tempting for a 1st telescope.

The price of the base is mates rates, so its the price of a manual 10" 2nd hand and anything handle/cradle wise that needs to change on the OTA for it to sit on the SW base.

Thanks
Steve

hi Steve,

from what I can see, if you've got the goto base, the only thing you'd need to change on the OTA is the circular bracket on the side of the tube so it connects neatly with the altitude bracket on the goto base unit. Dunno if you can buy them separately, as the whole goto kits are pretty pricey.

The link below is from the Skywatcher site, and has a link to the "manual" which explains how to change this bracket over.
