M7

I imaged this one last month during new moon at a much darker site than home. Three hours of 3 minute subs with the WO Star 71 at iso800 using the unmodded 550D. I had no idea this area was so beautiful until the first image came through on SGP.

Thanks Martin. I don’t like the stars in my image (in M7 that’s is), I had to fiddle to get them to show their true colours, maybe over saturated. Your colour is much better. If the two were combined it would be a winner I think.

Yes it would be nice to combine the best from our images but we image at vastly different image scales
My 6” f6 with the 600D is 0.98 arc sec / pixel ( slightly oversampled )
Your WO Star 71 with 550D is 2.55 arc sec / pixel (under sampled )
I don’t know if you “Drizzle” in your processing which should improve your SNR and star pixel density for better resolution and colour ?
Cheers

I usually drizzle. But this image was done with our club helping out a uni course. With 300 odd students wandering past the mount regularly I couldn’t dither, it was hard enough keeping the guiding decent as it was, so no point using drizzle on this one.

Think I've seen that image somewhere else Paul, still a lovely field non the less. The long exposure time, bringing out the background star field almost overwhelms poor old M 7 but shows just how much is waiting to be seen.

You have indeed Jeff. I agree about the background, it was extremely hard to try and balance the background field with M7, I don't think I fully succeeded but it is quite a nice field none the less.
