Canon 600mm F/4.0L lens rebuild information please

Hi Guys, could some please advise me, or point me in the right direction about having a Canon 600mm F/4.0L lens repaired or rebuilt.

A friend of mine had an unfortunate accident and dropped it, and it is a bit sad looking, no glass is broken but it has some damage to the outer housing.

It probably needs to be pulled down and rebuilt with a good clean and service thrown in.

Is this done in Australia, or dose it have to be sent back to the manufacture in Japan, or do i just leave it alone.

I presume it would not be cheap, but I reckon i could buy the wreck from him at a pretty reasonable price.

Your suggestions would be much appreciated, and any info of where to have the work done would be helpful.

Thank You.

Leon

Leon call Canon Aust. on 13 13 83.
Also here's the Canon Repair section that might get you started.

Hope you can get it fixed.

Send it to Canon in Sydney. They'll fix it.

All depends on is it still functional or not (focus, aperture)?
Is it still collimated?
If yes, leave it as is. Damage to outer housing would not bother me at all.
If it doesn't work, then the repair is probably needed, but maybe not to Canon specifications (which could be really expensive).
Maybe, you should talk to someone (Canon?) and try to negotiate the level of the repair.
