Question ND Filter for Solar Eclipse

I will be using a Canon 500D with a 300mm lens (+1.4 entender) to photograph the eclipse in November. I have a Hoya NDX4 Filter for this lens. Will it provide sufficient protection during the partial phases? This will be my first try at photographing an eclipse and any advice would be welcome.

Just play it safe and buy the Baader solar film, it is safe, easy and inexpensive to cover a 300mm lens.
