Eta Carona....

An HDR SHO (RGB stars) Eta Carina Nebula. Data taken on Wednesday (1/4) and Saturday (4/4) nights. As usual taken with a Skywatcher 8" Quattro Newtonian with a ZWO ASI1600MM-Pro (gain 200, -10º) on my EQ6-R. Processed entirely in PixInsight, with SII (120x5s, 40x180s) mapped to Red, Ha (450x2s, 30x180s) mapped to Green and OIII (120x5s, 30x180s) mapped to Blue. RGB stars each 60x5s. Big version here: https://www.astrobin.com/full/1zb5bo/B/?nc=user

A little bit fruitier than the HOO but hopefully kept the detail. Colours weren't tweaked an awful lot. I had an intention not to go too purple and blue but had to follow where the data went to a certain extent. Comments and criticisms always welcome.

Cheers Colin. I’m noticing slightly the different perceptions I have of the image across devices, particularly the bigger it is the less I care about saturation but the smaller it is the more it seems too saturated? Attached a less saturated version to test these waters.

A lovely image Ben, congrats! I hope you don't mind me saying, but I actually prefer your HOO version. The HOO is more subtle, this one feels a bit aggressive to me Again, still a lovely image but I just prefer your previous one.

Thanks Lee. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I’m very much in two minds about it myself. I don’t like the colour at all when looking at it on my iphone but do like it on my MacBook Pro, which surely is the better colour calibrated but is also a lot bigger image. This does make me think there is something not quite right about the image though, rather than blaming screens etc. A slightly less crazed version attached... hmm...

Super sharp Ben. Colours are vibrant, perhaps not entirely balanced with a bit too much blue for my taste but that's a processing choice for you as its narrowband.

I am amazed by these types of images done on modern but modest gear. Astro has really moved forward. I would only have expected an image like that only from super expensive gear like a Tak TOA150 or something.

Greg.

Thanks Greg. I’ve toned it down a fraction and lessened some of the maroon halos. Feels a little less forced to me now, although still quite blue... could go forever on this of course!

I’m astonished at how much I can get form the 8” Newt and once the backlash is eaten up with the guiding on the EQ6-R I can regularly get below .5 RMS with my OAG so really happy with the current setup. Still need finer colimation (one terrible corner which I think is my secondary) but centrally things are mostly okay.

Is that miscollimation in the top right or tilt? I would have thought tilt.

Greg.

Could be, although the stars around the edge are all slightly out of whack - some look a little astigmatic, others oblong, which could be a product of the vignetting, but that one corner is pretty consistent across all my subs. When I look at my flats that one corner is always slightly darker than the rest too.

Maybe I could drive there in my Toyota Carina, or my Toyota Carona??? I’d have to leave from Carona (Qld), although if the Carina virus gets past my Carona I won’t be going anywhere...

Beaute Carona Ben! Love the details. The blue colours with the purple nuances are pretty cool too. I reckon Jen would love it.
