Corrupt Sandisk Compact Flash Card, some help please

Hi Guys, well it seems i am not having a very good run camera and lens wise that is.
First my Canon Lens dies, and tonight there was a great electrical storm and when it was all over i checked the camera and found some beauties.

So home i went had another quick look and it tells me the card is not formatted than when i try and download the images which i have done thousands of times it tells me the card is corrupt and cannot be accessed. how can this happen.

So what the hell is going on, any suggestions greatly accepted.

Thanks Leon

I've had similar when batteries died during a shoot, card was halfway through writing at the time. I had to salvage the card , slow format on pc and integrity check to make sure it wasnt a damaged card, then format in camera and fine ever since. Suggestion: rotate in good full batteries during a shoot, don't push the limits and tempt fate. Only lost the shot it was writing at the time. This was a photography shoot btw, not astro where lowering temps increase risk of battery failure so more important to swap in good batteries for safety.

Thanks Sil, the batteries are always replaced during any long shoot especially lightning stuff where one can be there for hours.

Anyway I had finished for the night drove home and sat in the car a while and scrolled through the photos, there were some really good stuff there.

Then i went inside put the card into the computer which i usually do and that was it. nothing

It said access not available card is corrupt.

I then accessed the the card through my computer and clicked on the properties and that said zero byts used and full space available.

I know it had 450 shots on it in the camera.

So is the card playing games, is there anyway to check if there is actually anything on it, or did the computer cause the problem, which is working perfectly by the way, and wipe it all away

I shoved in another card exactly the same with some stuff on it from my second camera and it worked fine and downloaded all the pics, no problem.

So What happened in that short time of space

Pretty pissed off though some of those strikes were like spider webs directly over head, I have never pointed the camera straight up, ever.

Thanks Leon

Hi Leon...

I can't really answer what is going on, but this did happen to me when my batteries went flat.

This recovered most of the data:

https://www.cardrecovery.com/

I then gave it a full re-format after that.

cheers,

Well Bugger me, I have just been through that program and it did recovery all images that were ever on this Compact Flash Card, although the card says it has nothing on it.

It found 1578 deleted and lost images including 450 from last night.

They let you look at them in small images pick out what you want but you then have to buy the program, to get them back.

Not sure about that yet, did you buy the program or just use the evaluation version.

If so was the purchase all good i am a bit wary of some of these places.

Thanks for you response.

There are a bunch of free programs that do a similar task.

Something like this:

Its fully free open source. I just downloaded a new copy and tried it, and it worked without asking me to buy.

Well i just went through the process picked out 13 images i want and clicked on the recovery button and it told me to buy the program.
I definitely says you can recover up to 500mb's for free if you want heaps of GB's you need a licence.

So they do tell fibs after all.

Im trying to understand how that happened. I am 100% sure it is free. I just recovered a 1.2GB file and it didnt ask me to pay.

I have attached a screen shot. I checked the file, it was recovered correctly.

Hope you find a solution soon.

This is the download link:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/kick...3.exe/download

And this is the homepage
http://kickassundelete.sourceforge.net/

Its open source, so the code for the program is also provided at the above address, and i had a quick skim and it seems that is no mention of payment in the code.

I did try it and it was also the one that i had been trying to get to work.
it loads up OK, and on the left it has different drives, starting with the local c drive, i clicked scan and it scanned it fine.

But i don't want to recover any file from the local c drive, i want to recover images from my Compact Flash Card which is drive F.

But if i click on that it quickly returns to the Local C drive.

I have used another program call EaseUs Data Recovery Wizard and that works really great, and i have seen previews of the images i want 13 in all, but they want 109 dollars to get them back.

This Kick Ass program wont scan the drive that i want to scan, it is that simple, unless i am doing something really stupid, and that is possible

Thanks for you help,

Leon
