Anyone using a ZWO ASI178?

Just looking for thoughts and/or feedback on one of these...

I was thinking it might make an interesting little sensor for a short-ish refractor like my Esprit 100, what with 2.4 micron pixels and all.

Hey Dunk,

I've not used the ASI178 so I can't directly answer your question. The sensor is really small though, and when combined with the Esprit 100 @ 500mm, your FOV is actually smaller than I get with the ASI 1600 and the Esprit 120 @ 840mm. Seems to defeat the purpose of using such a short focal length scope to me... just my 2c

Cheers,
Lee

Thanks Lee - yeah I know it's a smaller chip, but the pixels are tiny ickle things, and of course it got me wondering if it'd be a better bet for eeking out a little more resolution when galaxy chasing I know I should just bite the bullet and use a bigger scope, but the Esprit is just so darn sharp it got me thinking about the theoretical, but rare, good night

The FOV with the 1600 isn't much shy of 2 degrees...I know I can always chop down to a ROI, but...idle brain cells

Of course, it got me thinking about its use as a planetary cam too...
