Eq6-r pro

Hi all,

About to upgrade my mount to a Skywatcher EQ6-R PRO.

My questing is for those who control theirs through EQmod. for my HEQ5 pro, I used a simple Shoestring USB2EQ5 Interface Cable which connected directly to the mount from the laptop.

I see the USB2EQ6 Interface Cable for the EQ6 connects to the hand controller. I want to bypass that completely and have it go directly from my laptop into the mount.

Any suggestions on how to run this type of setup?

The eqmod cable replaces the hand controller. It doesnt go in the hand controller.

How does this connect to the mount? Do I need adapters?

It plugs in, in place of the hand controller, and you tighten the two screws on either side. But this is the one for the older mounts.

I might be wrong, but I though the new EQ6s had a socket as opposed to the serial port setup they used to come with. Just check this before you order the cable to ensure you get the right one. There is a specific cable with the socket plug on one end and the USB on the other as I got one last week for the EQ 8.

Yeah pretty sure it uses RJ45 by the looks of the images.

I believe my best bet to bypass the hand controller is to buy the one that Jackstar has suggested.

Thanks guys

Gday Jacob
I read in yr original post that you already had an EQDir cable for your EQ5
If you still have that, it should work in the EQ6-R, as the RJ45 pinouts are still the same.

Thanks Martin, I have these procedures pretty much sorted as it doesn't seem to differ much from when I was using my HEQ5 pro with EQmod and stellarium

Appreciate the help and I am sure that anyone else first starting with ASCOM and EQmod will appreciate this!
