Aurora

A nice light show by the Mersey River in Devonport, Tas.
First Aurora outing with the new camera and lens. Pretty happy with the results.

Thanks guys.
Derek: The EOS70D and tokina AT-X 12-28F4 (sacrificed a f-stop for a useful zoom range).
That's probably a good indication of how strong it was last night with settings of: 1/30 F4 @ ISO1000 so generally about 2f-stops less exposure than the average aurora.

Thanks Alex.
Yes, very happy with the new set-up.
I think the sun is expected to be a bit more active over the weekend, but it is always weather dependent.

You cant lose..if it rains you can hunt down some fungus... which I must say I have always enjoyed when you put those subjects up.

I have a lot of not so good stuff going on so if you have something to take my mind off things ...please post lots and often.

Lovely shots. Nothing like a bit of new gear to lift the enthusiasm for the hunt for a good capture.

All the best with the new equipment.

Hadn't thought about that, but you're right :-)

Loverly shots Trev. We hope to get over your way next year, and the aurora is on top of the list. I'll have to get some tips off you.
Cheers Reverend.

Photos look great for a new setup!

HI Trevor,

Those recent images are looking great! Were you able to see the Aurora with the naked eye?

I would suggest to use a longer exposure. If you are shooting at 1/30 F4 @ ISO1000 I would personally change that to an exposure of 5-10 seconds and decrease the ISO.

Also I read some great advice online once, use the histogram when your out in the field rather than looking at the image on the back of camera. You typically would want the data in the middle or on the right hand side without touching the right edge. Look forward to seeing your results next time.

Cheers Brad, glad you liked them.
The Aurora is an advantage of Tassie, and it's a nice way to spend a few hours on a clear sky evening.
