Wish me luck- another setup!

Finally ordered the required precise parts adapter to get my Wide-field NB rig up and running. 71.5mm back focus for the heavy Pentax medium format lense rocks!

How are you going to focus it?

I'm more interested in how he's going to balance the camera and lens so as to minimise tilt

I'm looking to do a similar thing myself, with a Canon zoom. I figured two of the holder rings should do the trick, but the tilt adjuster is only $2 more

Update, the whole assembly feels very solid, and due to it all being screw mount, I hope tilt at these low focal lengths is fine.

Humayun - focus? Periodic manual of course. Until a few geniuses work out an elec focuser for me! Tested the focus just now, bloody good despite me still needing another 5.5mm spacer, grrrr.

It is very easy to rig up a RoboFocus with a belt and sprocket contraption. I'll be doing the same with my 200mm lens on the STL-11000M for a summer project.

Ah, good idea Humayun. Too many accessory purchases lately, so I'll wait awhile!

lol @ signature -- I still have a Meade DSI! It used to be my autoguider back in the day. It still works, too.

Haha Mike, you can't have everything! But I'd be happy to swap for your FSQ maybe?!

Rick, to keep you happy I've attached a first light, pretty sharp stars despite 'no guiding' and yet to receive a 5mm spacer to achieve perfecto back focus.

Ironically I used PI to adjust the brightness of this snap.

Sorry to say it's my best star image ever taken with the cam...

Nice shot, Simon. I see you've avoided peaking too early and left some room for improvement

So, how much is that NJP supposed to be able to carry

I think Mike will use the lens setup as a counterweight for the other 2 rigs

Have to admit I'm starting to get photon gluttony- anyone got a cheap EQ3 laying around so I can use the 2 setups at once?

Nice setup there Simon. Those Pentax lenses have some of the longest backfocus of any lens so that makes them especially useful for lens imaging.

I used to have a FLI PDF focuser setup on mine to get precise focus. Then I moved onto other things in Astro as you do and sold it.

Now I manually focus. My Pentax 165 and 75 do not seem to shift focus over temperature shifts. Perhaps the 165 a tad and the 75mm almost not at all.

I look for that focus graph to spike, I know what an in-focus image looks like and stop.

Greg.
