A Beautiful Little Owl

Hi Guys, I was out in the garden yesterday and i heard this rustling in the umbrella tree above and spotted this beautiful little Owl, looking down at me.

Of coarse the camera was inside, so i spirited to the house as fast as these old legs would go and hoped it would still be there when i came back, and it was.

Leon,

Nice shot. Do you think it noticed you? I'll try to ID it once I'm home and can check my books. The few times I've seen owls in the wild they have always been reluctant to fly and I imagine this one is pretty used to people being around. Hope it stays out of the way of the snakes.

Leon,

It's a Southern Boobook - quite common. I often hear one here, calling from somewhere along the creek.

I thought that this may have been a one off encounter, however we have been down to that tree many times and he/she is always in there.
Beautiful little Bird.

Excellent bird Leon. What a hoot! "Who" would have thought it would be so tame. I'm also lucky to have a tawny frogmouth who comes to my verandah every second night or so. We just sit and enjoy each others company. Will try and get a pic.
