Thanks DJT, that's great advice. At the moment I am thinking of getting the EQ6-R mount paired with a GS-600 f/4 OTA Newtonian and using my DSLR (Canon 80D) for imaging. Is that a good kit to start with in everyone's opinion?

An f/5 Newt is easier to work with than an f/4 collimation wise, is still quite fast, and has less coma than an f/4.

I took Raymo’s advice years ago and bought a GSO 8” f5 newt for my EQ6-R and never looked back after 4 years of AP
The 8” f5 newt is such a versatile all round performer and a snack to collimate
Although mine now sits in a Dome , I haven’t needed to re collimate it after 5 months of use ( I check it every second session)

I can back up that support for the 8" F5 Newt Martin. It was my goto visual and AP scope for 5 years and even after long road trips never seemed to need a tweak.

Think this size and FR is a sweet spot for the metal tube Newts. Any bigger and you risk issues with tube sagging/movement and surprisingly less portable (10" almost twice the weight). A well tuned Newt can be a lot faster gathering data versus same size RC and heck of a lot easier to collimate (from what I've read). Maybe not quite a the same resolution on smaller targets, but we're generally seeing limited on the East coast anyhow.

I too have pre-ordered an f/5 Newtonian from Bintel for my EQ6-R. Both are coming soon. I am very grateful for all the good advice in this forum. Can’t yet say that I’ve never looked back as my Astro journey hasn’t even begun yet, but I am really looking forward to getting started.

Regards,
Stéphane
