Lagoon... First of the season!

Up at Coolah, Sunday morning and I'm about to pack up to make my way home. Checked the Twilight End on my phone which was 5:58am, silly me still had Melbourne as the location so most of this was taken as the skies were getting brighter. Ditched my last few blue subs as they had gotten far too blown out in the background.

Ended up with:
6x120s R
10x120s G
6x120s B

High Res Link

Spent a bit of time fiddling with the backplate but in doing so I get the lower right corner better in focus but in doing so started severely affecting the lower left corner. So, Tuesday night I'm going to try another approach. All fun and games at F/3 and small pixels, such a TINY CFZ.

I wanted to get a start on it while everyone is too busy with other stuff! The Lagoon hasn't been done to death yet this year

Thanks Logan, I did this maybe 10 months ago with a DSLR and you'll be surprised how little exposure you need to get a good job on this target!

1.8 hours with an unmodded DSLR

Not to worry Matt, I saw when your headlights when on (I was at the Mewlon) and it was the subs after that as the sky was lightning up

My car does the same thing

Thanks M&T, my first version was far too red. Wasn't until I'd finished it that I came to realise that it needed to be pinker and show some of the blue in the lagoon more
Doesn't quite have the detail of your Hour Glass from a year or two ago!

There are some bad aspects of low read noise and F/3... LOTS of very short subs. I'm using the lowest Gain setting and I only need 120s RGB and half to a third of that time for Luminance. I'll fill up that 4TB HD in no time

Hi Colin,

Lovely star colours and good details.
But - compositionally it's a bit awkward - lots of empty space either side... imo would have been stronger rotated 90*.
Also there appears to be some focus/tilt issues on the bottom right & (less so) top right?

Cheers

There is nothing wrong with the images from a DSLR Alex. I've got that one printed and framed, although a more saturated and cropped (square) version.

Thanks Greg, still needs a lot more integration and some added Ha for the fainter aspects.

Composition? What is this word of which you speak
You mean rotated and cropped like this?!

I've tried to get a happy median at the moment, waiting for Officina Stellare to send me a document on how to fix up some pressure on the front lens which is causing a collimation problem. The closer I get to getting the bottom right corner in focus (tilt) the more it affects to the top right and bottom left corners.

Nice start to the season Colin .

What is it with everyone being sick of the main targets? I love seeing everyone's interpretations, didn't know there was a strict time limit on producing these images. Or maybe some of us should just post on the USA forums?!

And same with the pixel peeping. More and more folk are starting to peer very closely into some images, not sure what's going on? There's minor issues with your stars but i know you're aware of it and just enjoying getting the most out of your new scope. I can pick out star errors on most images but rarely mention it, as most mere mortals wont notice it at 'normal' viewing levels.

That image will be a good basis for a great mosaic. Maybe...M20?!
