How can i get started in radio astronomy?

How hard is it to get setup for radio astronomy? I was looking at a photo, from the 2016 NEAF, of a dish attached to a mount that looked like an NEQ6. What are the start up costs? I was a HAM radio guy as a teenager, and used to build Heathkit transceivers so i have some electronics background, trained as a telecom tech, also worked in data comms for most of my life, including installing microwave systems with major telcos. So i think i can handle the equipment side, the processing would be new for sure.

Glen,
Have you seen my radio-telescope threads? I was observing 1.42GHz hydrogen emissions from Milky Way.

What do you want to do? Which frequencies you have in mind?
BTW, I wouldn't place antenna like this on EQ6 (unless it has already worn out gears...). Also, FOV of that antenna is ~8° for 1.42GHz, so in my opinion a modification to standard satellite antenna actuators (perhaps coupled with encoders and David Ek interface) is more than adequate.
Anyway, this is going to be my next step - coupling antenna with CdC... when I move to Ballarat.
Then perhaps I will try OH emissions.. however they are significantly weaker than H-line

Free Dish

I have a 2.3 metre mesh C band dish with c/Ku LNB and motor drive free for taking in the blue mountains if anyone wants to take it away
