Mount Glasgow - Persistent Meteor Train

Just discovered this in a timelapse sequence last month.. an exceptionally persistent meteor train which lasted around an hour and a half before the last remnants were overwhelmed by clouds and morning twilight. Captured looking south over Mount Glasgow towards Ballarat on the morning of 8th April 2017.

Enjoy..

Thanks Pat & LostInSp_ce! I have had a camera running for more than 30 nights so wasn't exactly a fluke

Hi Phil,

Even more impressive than a fluke that you worked out a strategy to catch the trail!

Eclipse. Hoping to be at Rendezvous Mt at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (approx 3000m altitude) and I'll be staying at a condo in the resort. If weather cooperates, I'll be there with friends. In 1994, observing from 4500m, I observed naked eye approx 6 degrees of corona. Hoping to repeat this from Jackson. Also have motel rooms in Boise for an overnight stay if we have to do a cannonball run east to Idaho or Oregon chasing clear sky. Spending 5 days camping at Yellowstone beforehand.

I think I heard from someone that you'll also be in Jackson. We'll try to organize a cafe meet up for IIS members.

I will be with Brad helping lead this eclipse tour: http://www.udesignphototours.com/pho...hoto-tour.html

I saw the option to get the cable car up the mountain. Bit hard to do with tour group and I didn't like that I couldn't take suitcase of photography gear with me!

Fingers crossed for clear skies.. that'll be a nervous morning once you're up top!!

Cafe meet-up will be great.. see you there!

Phil

Good catch Phil.

I was recently at Jackson Hole. Cute little town. I wonder how stable their weather is though. Also I was told by a shopkeeper a lot of places are already booked out.

Greg.

Yes.. everything in Jackson has been booked out for a long time. The tour accommodation has been booked for a couple of years. Weather will be tricky but on the lee side of the mountains before midday (plus eclipse cooling) there's a reasonable chance. Forecasts the day before will be reasonably skillful.. if we need to we'll be moving!

I've long been a meteor guy (my dslr shutter hates me, as does my HDD/s). F**kn unreal capture mate, love the timelapse too! I find it incredible that these frames were captured over more than a few minutes yet hours!!! Guess Ballarat is inland enough to avoid coastal winds, but still, that's freakin amazing. Must have been a still night! I guess you never know when a beauty like that will go off. Love it dude! Top darts Phil! Cheers!
