Ok, so Sir Lancelot was the name of the project.... now that it is coming to a close my dear Finance Comptroller has decreed that perhaps another name might be required......
The mounting pucks for the altitude bearings are ready
Thanks once again to Stefan Buda for turning my pencil sketches to DXF files and to CALM Aluminium for arranging for the 316 stainless steel to be water jet cut to shape...
My part was just the application of cutting fluid and 'elbow grease' to tap the threads, this stuff is a challenge for hand held tapping.....After some cursing and minor anguish.... success
Real nice work Matt ...... your a ' Perfectionist ' to the core...
A ' Flash ' project indeed ...!!
Thanks Flash, there is light at the end of the tunnel now, the assembly starts this weekend all things going well at the powder coaters...
Got some PTFE and HDPE today for the finishing touches....
Then I will need to make a shroud and a some ramps to get it into the vehicles...
I think my dear wife is getting rather tired of the mess on the back porch....
metal filings and drilling swarf everywhere.
Just tidying up little items on the list while waiting for the powder coating to be done:
Made a couple of stainless steel backing plates (washers) to spread the load a little on the altitude bearing mounting pucks....
and, while I had a little time and stainless sheet spare, made a new stalk and mounting plate for the Nexus DSC. 30mm Ø carbon stalk with delrin insert threaded to 1/4"-20 and the 1mm thick stainless mounting plate. Still need to make a couple of brass pins to mount the Nexus to the plate.
Excalibur has new armour....
With thanks to ACT Powder Coating at Silva Avenue Queanbeyan for not only doing a great job at a great price but also wrapping everything up in bubble wrap to make sure it got home unmarked...
I spent a couple of hours getting the many pieces back together again and though there is still much to do, the results are exactly what I was looking for ...
The altitude bearings and the base of the rocker box are Dulux Aztec Silver Texture while the rest of the rocker box and the mirror box are Interpon Sable Bass Texture....
You remind me of the days of holden sin-bins with amply proportioned damsels on the sides and mud-flaps, and Valiants with lurid purple paint jobs. No doubt there are a few still roaming the ACT
What matters is how the scope performs, not the effing paint !
