Question Covering the eyepiece?

Just wondering, for those of us usually working from a less than pristine city environment, is it necessary to cover the eyepiece on your DSLR?

Not sure what you mean with, eyepiece on the DSLR. but i presume that you mean the view finder on the camera when imaging, if this is the case it certainly pays to do this as light can leak in and spoil a good image.

I agree with Leon, if you mean when exposing an image then yes cover the viewfinder so no stray light can spoil the exposure.

Pardon the dodgey terminology - viewfinder is what I meant.

Next question - how is that usually achieved - with the plastic cover thingy on the camera strap?

(there goes my great vocab again....)
