Moon pictures

I've just been talking to my brother in the UK and of course any pics of the moon we take in the southern hemisphere are 180 deg rotated to his, that's normal, but he's just received one from someone in the southern states of the USA and that is just rotated 90 deg. Never thought about it before but at the equator is the moon rotated 90 deg from our view? Thinking about it I would say yes but would like to know what you all think.

Rotated 90 deg.? No. The moon isn't rotated; your orientation is.

Having done this (in both Nth and Sth hemispheres), in the opposite hemisphere, the moon will look "right" to you if you stand on your head or bend over backwards to view it.

If you want, draw a diagram and see how the angles work out.

I just launched "Virtual Moon Atlas" (VMA) and captured screen shots set for Brisbane, Dar es Salaam, LA, NY and the UK as per the screen captures attached here.

In VMA I set the "Local Zenith at Top" to obtain the local view.

VMA is free and is a wonderful lunar resource.

Cheers

Dennis
