Ngc1398

NGC 1398 in Fornax is a barred spiral about 130 kly across with a double ring structure. It is about 65 Mly distant.

The three nights I got on the target were unfortunately not great - seeing around 2.8", and patches of cloud. Total exposure was 2hr 50min L and 3hr RGB. I think this galaxy needs a bit more (Chart 32 gave it 17hours!)

Processed in PI and PS, and it took more work than than I like to do, since the data was not really up to standard Definitely worth another campaign.

Field of view 28' x 22'.

Wow I'm not familiar with this ... it's the galaxy equivalent of the Helix nebula...another "eye of god"... well captured

That's come out very well indeed for a small amount of data.

Very nice, I shot that with my SCT, but it lacks that last little bit of sharpness in the fine detail compared to your image. I can't complain given it is a vanilla C925.

Sooner or later I will have to move it on for something better for imaging.

Great galaxy work there Mark with good colour and detail just mask your stars better.... the dark rings and harsh sharpening on them is distracting.

Marc, Mike, Robert, alpal, Paul, Louie.

Thanks all. Your comments much appreciated.
Mike, favourite galaxy? Why not. This one is a pretty rare structure, so I agree it's a good choice
