AP Riccardi Honders

My AP scope cleared customs today, and rather than risk any ham fisted handling via a local courier...decided to pick it up from UPS personally.

The palette contained boxes way larger than I expected. They barely fit into my sedan. But we made it...just...and kudos to the fork-lift guy at UPS for his kind help in shoe-horning the boxes into my car.

Of course the weather is closing in as I write....

Here are some happy-snaps

Noice!

Will a 1200 swing it, or do you need el Capitan?

Grats on getting your hands on one , they are a seriously good scope and
probably a great investment as well.

Yep, well I'm grinning like the Cheshire cat, don't know about it being investment grade however

A mixed marriage - two fine AP scopes and that red thing! I suppose I can't talk with a Tak and AP mount, but I am on the waiting list for an AP scope - provided Roland keeps making them for another 10 years...

Looks very nice Peter. I assume we will see some spectacular results once the clouds clear.

Indeed. Roland is a wizard.

Im sure there is an equation that shows rarity and cost of gear is directly proportional to subsequent cloud cover

Congrats Peter!!! Very exciting!!

Hope the weather gods smile on you - looking forward to seeing the first images!

Side by side tandem mounted like that, do you need two dome geometry setups (depending on which scope you're using) with different optical axis offsets?

Cheers, Marcus

Looks wonderful. I've never seen an AP scope in the flesh but remember being amazed when I first took delivery of my 900GTO at the superb finish and attention to detail. Beautiful engineering and construction. That's some sizable secondary there.

Ah! Thanks indeed from a fellow purveyor of fine instruments

With the RCOS and the AP155 two pointing models certainly helped, but I suspect at similar focal lengths they should be able to use the same model...well, that's plan A.

With around a 50% obstruction, this is not a visual scope for the purists.
But that's not why it's here

It's so compact. Amazing piece of engineering. You can tell it's high quality by just looking at it. The specs aperture/FL are impressive. Can't wait to see it in action.

I was asking about your dome geometry - do you have 2 setups for the side-by-side configuration? The distance between the optical axes would be too large for a Sirus 2.3m dome slit wouldn't it?

Cheers, Marcus

Marcus... am now understanding.... and yes, I have two dome geometry setup-ups. Putting in an optical axis offset allows AutomaDome to compensate nicely.

Hey Peter,

Now that you have had a few months with the AP Honders, what are your thoughts about it? Yes, I am on the list for one.
