Colour or Mono CCD?

Hello all
Given that a colour CCD device has one third of the resolution of an equivalent Mono one due to the mask, would a colour CCD device have to have at least three times the number of pixels to obtain the same definition?
Or are there other factors at play that this newbie is unaware of?
The answers to this question will determine the imaging device I will buy.
Cheers

I'm not sure it works like that? I'm sure the more experienced photographers here will be able to give you an explanation why/why not.

Anyway...I think the key point here is that you need to make a decision about your learning curve and what it is that you want to get out of your imaging.

One-shot colour cameras are much easier in terms of capture and processing. The downside is they don't offer the same result as a mono ccd combined with filters and filter wheel.

You need to make a choice about what your plans/goals are and go from there.

Also, what sort of imaging do you want to do?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with using a one-shot colour camera. It certainly makes life easier.
