visual m45

hello members is it possible to visually see the reflection nebula surrounding m45 with a 4" refractor from sunurbia?

Hi Pat,

I've got a 5 inch refractor in a semi dark sky but haven't ever seen the nebulosity around the stars. I reckon you would need a really dark site I would be interested to hear from others if the nebulosity is a visual possibility too.

I have seen a ' hint ' of it with my NA140SS ... only on a moonless ' steady ' evening... more so with averted vision.

Back in the 90's .... I saw it clearly with a 8" inch f/7 Dob.
And I was astounded of the ' clarity ' and ' blueish ' colour of the Nebula.

Guess all things came together nicely that particular night.....I was in Rockhampton at the time.
