Evryscope: a full sky gigapixel scale telescope

I wouldn't mind one of these but storing and processing the data would be a pain

Thanks for the link.

It's interesting to read that the data storage requirements for the
project are relatively modest by the standards of today's technology.

By comparison, according to an article that appeared in the January
2014 edition of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering's
Spectrum magazine
, a feature-length motion picture digital master is
about 8.3 terabytes in size and the archival requirements of the entire
production of such a movie is upwards of 2 petabytes - equivalent to half
a million DVD's.

In either case, ensuring that the data is still readable perhaps decades from now
is the tricky part.
