We gave up dreaming.

We rely far too much on other nation's products, and reject innovation and the importance of it.

We not only gave up dreaming, we forget how to, and shun anyone that does.

When the launch site is hit by the next earthquake or the ground level of the pad is tilted only slightly due to one, two or three in a row, making calculations invalid or even the rocket explode at launch ... ?

Space is sexy. But I assume engineers in Oz put their ingenuity to good use in the most dominant industry for example to lessen it's bad direct and indirect effect on environment and climate change: mining. Unsexy, but to the very practical benefit of mankind, indeed.

What industry has NZ got where local engineers organically find their field and can drive inventions? Cattle, sheep and [Kiwi] orchards. Developing genius pasture monitoring systems are actually "a thing" in NZ that I know does exist. Also to the benefit of mankind. Especially with extreme local weather conditions on the rise like the draught in Ireland and other pasture-driven economies in Europe this spring/summer.
