How good was Bruce Lee?

An interesting video:

To me Bruce is the GOAT, much like Ali in boxing, but others may disagree.

Well, we all know Bruce Lee kept Chuck Norris on his toes.

Not bad, considering that the only thing that scares the Boogey Man is Chuck Norris.

I liked the fact that Bruce Lee was open minded in regards to the development of his skills. He studied various martial and combat arts to develop Jeet Kune Do and it was ever evolving. He was no writer though his book the Tao of Jeet Kune Do can be difficult to read.

Bruce Lee gave us a philosophy...Chuck Norris gave us the Total Gym.

There is only one test.

A cage fight.

Three five minute rounds against an opponent who fights thru a broken nose would test both Bruce and Chuck I suspect.

The endurance would be way past any level Bruce or Chuck would have trained for.

Learning to fight is one thing but actually fighting week in week out is another thing entirely.

When I learned judo and jujitsu we trained and then would have four fights after ever session ...I did this for two years such that the training could be actually used in combat.

I not only had four fights after training but a couple after school most days in those two years...thats all we had to do when I was a kid.

I bet Bruce did not have four fights a week☺.

And I bet he would not handle a professional mma fighter given their wrestling base and ability to avoid a fight of only strikes ... and they are so fit.
I have never seen Bruce submit anyone and the fact is there are folk you can hit who wont go down but give up when you get an arm bar or a choke that causes them to pass out.
I dont think Bruce actually had professional fights..Did he?
anyways we will never know.

He was a street fighter when he was in Hong Kong before his move to the US. Then there was the controversial private match with Wong Jack Man.

Never a professional fighter so no record.
One fight recorded has Bruce winning by knock out in 11 seconds...but there is so little that I could find.

MMA is a big money sport now.
One championship it worked out $10,000 a minute for 25 minutes.

You are trying to compare a deceased man from the 60's-70's by todays standards. He was a martial artist and a film maker...not an MMA. Could he beat any of the stars in todays MMA...we will never know. He was a street fighter and that is a good pedigree to MMA. I liked the fact that he was not narrow minded when it came to various martial arts..he saw the pro's and con's. None of this Tae Kwon Do vs Karate vs Judo vs Ju Jitsu crap.

Bruce was awesome. Better than X though can't compare. Define "better". He certainly brought eastern martial arts to the west in a big way as a fighting style to be reckoned with. The philosophy of JKD created the MMA genre. An individual can train to be the fastest puncher or kicker or have the strongest grip, but thats just ego stroking, it doesn't guarentee a win in any way or that an opponent won't dodge or block effectively. These fantasy fight comparisons are meaningless as both opponents have strengths and weaknesses and the situation can have other factors coming into play. If you're talking about a sports match situation its unrealistic compared to a life/death fight situation. Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan, Jet Li are all good martial artists in their own right, I wouldn't want to face any of them in a serious fight. Ditto the Gracies (who I have sparred with), people with skills have skills, thats all, can give them an edge certainly but then I've seen skilled martial artists get knocked out sparring with nervous beginners who dont know how to control themselves and are hard to read because they havent learnt a style yet, certainly can't feint, might over react to anything you do etc. There are plenty of people who do NOT do martial arts for fame and recognition and have high degree of skills.
