With "Guinevere" now under the care of OzEclipse and the Bino-TSA project nearing end, it is time once again to look forward to a Autumn/Winter project...
To that end I was fortunate to recently buy 'mch62's Dobsonian and although the scope was solidly built it was never going to fit into my chariot without some major design changes........
The new scope will feature:
Suchting Precision Optics 18" F3.54 Primary Mirror
Astrosystems 4.5" ma 1/10 secondary mirror (Focal Length 63.7" or 1618mm)
Starlight Instruments Feathertouch FTF2015BCR 2" focuser
Starlight Instruments SIPS Coma corrector
Astrosystems Heavy Duty Type III Spider
Astrosystems Secondary holder
Moonlite Truss Clamps
Custom 18pt mirror cell/tailgate
and aluminium structure for the mirror box and rocker box
Make it out of solid Jarrah this time, so that when you kick the bucket, we can present it to the National Museum of Australia. It'll look nice next to the Grubb refractor...
Thanks one and all and thanks especially to
Mark Suchting for lots of advice and suggestions,
Bratislav who sent me a comprehensive album of his scope components and
Tom Osypowski for making his designs available to me
After raiding the warehouse of Ullrich Aluminium, Hume, I got out my trusty Makita Slide Compound Saw and set about transforming long lengths of Aluminium into lots of short lengths:
Good luck with the project , I'm glad you bought it I was seriously looking at ways to hide it someplace until i cleared some space .
I was surprised (and glad) that you didn't go for this one Graham.

Thanks Leon, my target date for "First Light" is 26 June.... at a much later date will come an Equatorial Platform to replace the current ground board which was also saved from Mark's original build. I just have to learn how to build an Eq Platform.... I would love to buy one from Tom Osypowski but need to win Lotto first.
