Crystal Crux

I was looking for something in one of my old camera bags and I came across this crystal filter I had purchased in the days when I was using film with my Pentax Spotmatic f SLR. I had used it on astro shots before but never with a digital camera. So last night I chucked it on my 135mm Pentax lens along with a UV/IR cut filter and took 10 x 1min subs at 400 iso using the modded Canon 550d on the Nano Tracker.

An interesting result which some may find distasteful but nevertheless a different take on this iconic group of stars. Love it or hate it, here it is.

Way to go Michael!

You have the best star colours, even better than many of the 'pros'.

I have tried many time to get the colours right, and so far, failed.

Great image.

Thanks Peter, I'm finding that using lower ISO values brings out more colour. I used to use 1600 iso exclusively when I first started but now favour 800 ISO or lower depending on the location and or optical system I'm using. Obviously, the fainter targets, without guiding, require higher ISO values to give me a chance of capturing more detail.

Love the colours of the Jewel box.
Might try lower iso when the clouds go.

Cheers
Andy.
