Horsehead and Flame Nebulae

Taken back in Nov & Dec over 3 nights, I’ve spent the last two months working on this data over and over trying to figure out the best way to remove some reflections and I’m getting closer but this is where I’m going to leave it for the time being. Need to look at some other data now

284x120s with the RH200 and ASI094.

Incredibly detailed image with loads of tiny stars. I don’t think the reflections are a problem. Perhaps tone down the saturation a tad.

The classic astro photo. Great framing, colour is probably too saturated but its nice and impinging. The blue halos around brighter stars can be handled easily in Photoshop and I also developed a technique to handle halo rings from the optics on some of those other stars.

Thanks Geoff
I’m thinking I should post one of my earlier earlier versions before the last slight saturation tweak

I should post one of my earlier versions Mike, you wouldn’t be saying it had some mute colours

Thanks Greg I’ve definitely pushed the saturation, I tried to go as far as I could before it starts losing detail in the saturation.
I could do a selective desaturation but that would affect the other blues in the image.

A superb photo.

As others have said, perhaps a tiny bit fluoro, but the level of deep detail is astounding.

Perhaps reflections are just a part of photographing in this area, like heavy traffic in London.

Thanks MnT. I did kinda take your advice from back in Nov when you suggested I do really large dithers to help remove artefacts. It got me thinking that instead of large dithers between individual images I could image a different area on every night to shift them. It largely worked and it did allow me to remove things so I can thank you for that

The irritating part for me is that the reflections are coming from stars a few degrees outside of the FOV, not from anything big and bright within the frame :/

I should bow to public opinion though and do a slightly less saturated version

Thanks Marc, the saturation helps make the flame pop

A classic Colin. We all need a horse head and flame in our repertoire. Reflections off Alnitak can be a problem in this area but you seem to have managed them well.
