Captured a few lunar images a few nights ago of a 95% waxing moon with my new 8” f5 for the first time with BYEOS planetary mode
1/ Prime focus
2/ 2 x Powermate
3/ 2.5 x Powermate
4/ 4 x Powermate
The crater Tyco being the centre feature
Stacked in Autostakkert 3
Sharpened in Registax 6
In retrospect my old 6” f6 newt is better for lunar images , the 8” has a bit to much aperture and focal length
Martin, the reasons you give for prefering your 6" f/6 don't make sense to me, the extra 11% of focal length doesn't stop you getting the whole moon in the
frame, so what is the disadvantage? You can't have too much aperture for
lunar work, the greater the aperture the more magnification you can use if you wish, but more importantly, the smaller the details that can be resolved.
Win win situation.

Maybe seeing conditions could be the difference but the 6” f6 works well with my Canon 600D at 5 x zoom on BYEOS which produces almost 1:1 pixel resolution
On the 8” f5 with 5 x zoom on BYEOS the images appear not as sharp especially using the Televue powermates ( maybe to much magnification for the seeing conditions )
Lots of variables but you do get a feel for your scopes after a while and so far the 6” seems better
Maybe the next night I use the 8” on the moon things maybe different
Cheers
Martin, To produce fine lunar images you don't need BYEOS, or need to worry
about pixel ratios, or introduce anything else that takes away from the simplicity of what you are doing. You can't beat the laws of physics; your 8 should out perform your 6, just as my 10 out performed my 8. I assume that you have checked your 8's collimation. On nights of really good seeing you don't even need video, or to stack still images. Some of my best lunar shots
have been single frames.
I hope you don't mind my commenting on your images, but the two smaller
scale ones are over sharpened and over contrasted, so that the moon doesn't
look real. I have posted a correctly processed image for comparison.
Hope it helps.

Thanks Raymo
I don’t mind any comments at all , that’s why we post images
Yes I’ve been taking single lunar images on 6” for a few years now
Here’s a couple from last year
I used video “lucky imaging” on the 8” to see how they would end up, I’m always experimenting with things
