Spectacular videos.
Years ago I was lucky enough to see a daytime fireball while sitting at traffic lights on my motorcycle. The lights turned green but nobody bothered to drive off until the show was over. A very intense light, an amazing smoke trail that stretched from horizon to horizon and a sonic boom. It made the Brisbane TV news shows that evening as well.

Saw one similar, but less bright in NSW when I was a kid. Thunder clap and break up. It was night though - this one is much brighter to be that clear in semi-daylight.

I just watched this one posted on the Guardian.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...v=gQ6Pa5Pv_io#!
Visually the trail is 4:40; the boom is at 7min.
Calculating the distance via speed of sound to time difference; that's around 47000 metres.
Have I calc'd this wrong or that doesn't make sense?
Or the sonic boom travelled at a lower height above ground.

Wow, So i am left thinking, with that DA14 Asteroid in such close proximity to us at the moment, Could this be just a co-incidence or possibly a fragment ? ? I wouldnt rule it out ? ? just yet : )

That was East to West from the video footage, DA14 is South to North, so I doubt it's related?

Ah sry, so that was distance from the viewer, not its height
...still amazing!
