Mars this morning from Melbourne

I got up a bit late and Jupiter got behind a tree by the time I was ready to capture some images so I tried Mars instead. At least it was higher than Jupiter and that helped with the seeing.
I used only 750 frames only, out of 3500, for each colour.
Camera was a ZWO ASI120MM and the scope, a 16" Dall-Kirkham.

The view through the eyepiece is actually very similar providing that you use a planetary scope that can give you 600x magnification and the seeing cooperates. I hate viewing the planets at 200x, as many people seem to do.

I'm very happy with my ZWO, although I haven't used it much yet.
Only problem is that I scratched the sensor window by screwing in the wide angle lens too far, so I'm using it without the protecting window.

No doubt that you see Mars like a photo in your "Beast" of a scope, and with it's optics ; cooled down and seeing permitting, and at 600+, as I have done just that on rare nights in only a 7" Mak!

All of my views of Mars so far have been through a Meade LX200 10" that I doubt has been even slightly climatised haha Never seen anything other than a super fuzzy red blob

Going to try Mars this year in the SCT that I have also; if it's not near the Mak, I will sell mine also-Too many scope!

PS: May be tempted to get a SR 130 refractor like yourself soon enough-
they seem V.G.
