Colour in nebulae

Hey all, Joe here. I've been into the hobby since the late 70's beginning with a tiny scope &binoculars. Through the years I've owned/and or looked through a huge variety of scopes. In the middle 80's I was part of a group who delighted in seeing supposedly invisible objects through the smallest aperture possible.

Anyway, apart from the normal bluish green or grey, have you ever visually detected colours in nebulae? I'd be really interested if you could include a) how old your eyes were/are b) scope size and x and c) how good the seeing and transparency was. Obviously the object too.

IC418 (Planetary nebula) is the only nebula i can recall seeing a different colour, it appeared as a small red ring around the central star. for the details:
a - 25 years old
b - 30" telescope, 13mm eyepiece (I believe it gave about 260x mag)
c - Seeing was average (5-6/10), I don't recall the transparency that night.

The nebula itself didn't show much detail though the colour was fairly obvious to multiple observers.
