Perth - observing sites

Hi All,
New member and new to Astronomy. I have been searching the forum for recommendations for Perth, but come up blank.

Can anyone recommend some dark sites not too far from the city, preferably south (I am in Atwell, which is nearish Jandakot).

I went to the Wandi community centre the other night, which has a nice oval, but unfortunately a rather large bright light on the edge.

thanks

Hi there. Nice to see at least one other from Perth.
I'm north so not much help to you. I am only a newbie and usually just setup in my backyard. Whenever I go camping I take my telescope with me. Lake Leschenaultia is a nice little spot. so is around Toodyay. Hopefully there are more from Perth on here. We have some nice dark sky's on our doorstep and its a shame not more people look up

Cheers, Yes, we have been to Lake Leschenaultia for day trips, often thought of going camping there. Will have to add that to the list soon.

1) Golden Grove - Talk to Keith over at BTOW in Malaga http://members.iinet.net.au/~champas/contact.shtml
2) Tammin - I believe this requires you be a member of ASWA https://aswa.info/

I am North too, and a practising newbie
Keith is now at Binocentral in Joondalup http://www.binocentral.com.au/
Yes you need to be a member of AGWA but it is not much.

East of you there is canning mills or pickering brook valley, not sure how dark they are, i have rode through these areas many times and thought they would be a good place to set up a scope, but never got round to it.
Perth observatory is located near pickering brook too.
You could probably find a good place around Mundaring weir too mate 👍👍

Fremantle here, during the weekend, but during the week I am in the Wheatbelt. Farming area, and very dark skies. We had a lovely astronomy evening in Mukinbudin, and there is a budding club there. A long way from Perth, but well worth the travel if you want to make a weekend of it.

I live in Armadale and also looking for a dark site nearby.

Unfortunately a lot of potential sights in the Perth hills are locked up after dark (eg Churchman brook Dam, Wungong Dam etc...)
