Messier 83 Southern Pinwheel Galaxy

Another one I managed to process today taken a couple of weeks ago. Maybe pushed this one a little too hard. A bit too much candy.

130mm APO
NEQ6 Pro (stock)
Canon 70D (stock)
100 x 180 sec
ISO 800

That's a very nice image, smoothly processed to my eyes. I like the colour saturation, maybe overdone a bit but think of the science behind it. After all the colours do represent nebulae and different stages of star formation. The red for emission nebulae, older orange stars near the core and young hot blue stars out in the spiral arms.

In this case, a little bit of candy is good. Great contrast of colour.

Thanks Carlton, it's one of the few galaxies that I can actually see anything other than a smudge on the screen due to my focal length. It's position and orientation make it a great target to practice on.

Thanks Nathan, originally I did a more subtle/natural version but I got suckered into google images as reference and probably lost my way a little.

Thanks Jeff, but something doesn't quite sit right with me every time I see it.

Thanks Martin, I'm happy with the core but would have liked to have gotten some more out of the edges. It's tough to pick up the faint stuff from the backyard.

All good Alex and thanks. I read and type on the go a lot too so I'm always making all kinds of silly mistakes.
