2012 total solar eclipse from reef offshore from Cairns

Hi Guys...

This was my first solar eclipse...
From fear of missing it due to overcast clouds over land, I went to observe the eclipse on a pontoon off from the Cairns coast.

Unfortunately this meant i could not take my EQ5 mount and 8' SCT and was forced to take these shots with my celestron 70mm guide scope.....Heart breaking!!!!

these shots were taken using a Nikon d5000 camera.
I know these aren't as brilliant as some on here, but never the less I hope you still enjoy them....

Very nice images John you certainly made the most of the conditions, I was on a small yacht perhaps not too far from you

Well I hope you all were as fascinated by the eclipse as I was and that your observation wasn't ruined by cloud cover.

I and surely every other person on the yacht was left 'awe struck'.

I was not expecting it to be sooo spectacular, seeing the corona extending far and away from the sun was ... (my words can't describe it).

The colour the sky turned at totality was .... (my words can't describe it).

This was my first TSE and hopefuly not my last. I was lucky enough to see the entire event uninterrupted and with my loved ones. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

For your first eclipse these shots are pretty darn good. My first eclipse was done with a 3 mp camera and a film camera and the shots are pretty ordinary. Your next one will be better and as they say by the 3rd you should be producing out standing images (unlike my own).
